5 of the best Eye Creams Review

5 Different under eye creams, gels and roll ons at 5 different price points, giving you the low down on these drugstore/highstreet products!

Ok a note before we start. I don't have a massive problem with puffy eyes or dark circles. I do have some fine lines at the corners of my eyes and when I'm tired my eyes show it. So so you all know, I'm not looking for a mini eye lift out of any of these products, just something to keep my eye area hydrated and looking good.

1. Bodyshop Vitamin E Eye Cream 15ml   £11

  They say :

This moisturising eye cream hydrates, smoothes and protects the delicate skin around the eye.

  • Hydrates skin in the eye area
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines
  • Leaves skin feeling soft and smooth
  • Gentle massage helps reduce puffiness

My say :

I like this eye cream because its thin and sinks in easily. It has a fresh fragrance and I like the idea that it gives a boost of vitamins to my under eye area with no scary acids!

However I'm not convinced this eye cream does a great deal for me. I've not noticed my fine lines getting any less but I do keep using it as a way to keep my under eye area hydrated. My skin does feel silky when I use it regularly but occasionally I experience a stinging sensation. I really wish this did more for me because I know it has a large following but based on it's performance so far I wouldn't repurchase.

2. No. 7 Youthful Eye Serum 15ml   £19.50

They say :

Targets key signs of ageing around the eyes.
The advanced formula with a blend of Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C and Soft focus Spheres instantly smoothes, revitalises and brightens to give the skin around the eyes a youthful radiance.
In addition, an effective fusion of Vitamin A, Cassava and Anti-Ageing Peptides work day by day to visibly improve skin firmness, reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness and reduce wrinkles including crow’s feet.

My say :

I only have a sample size, as you can see from the picture, which is 7ml, just under half the size you would get as a full product. I have been using this every night since I got the sample. (The sample came as part of a gift set when you made two purchases from the No. 7 range). I love it. I like that this isn't just an eye cream that makes claims but when you see the ingredient list is just a diluted face cream. This has got some real science behind it and yet it feels really gentle on my eye area. I do notice my eyes look better when I use it and I am planning on purchasing the full size when I have run out.

3. L'Oreal Revitalift Eye Cream 15ml  £11.49

They say :

A unique anti-ageing eye treatment with nanosomes of Pro-Retinol A and Par-Elastyl specially developed in L'Oreal laboratories to fight the signs of ageing.

My say :

This is definitely priced cheaply for what it contains. I purchased this as I wanted to start giving my eye area a bit more love, and prevent things getting worse while I still can but I'm not looking for anything really expensive. I think this is the only eye cream on the market with Pro-Retinol A priced this cheaply so it is a bargain of a product.

I stopped using this and gave it to my mum as I think it suits more mature skin. I worried that it was too strong for my under eye area and might actually make things worse piling this on every night. I think it would be great for more mature skin and very effective for something with such a reasonable price point.

4. Simple Kind to Eyes Revitalising Eye Roll On 15ml

£5.49

They say :

Simple's Revitalising Eye Roll-On contains a refreshing eye gel formulated with cucumber extract and vitamin goodness to wake up and reduce puffiness and revitalise tired eyes.
The innovative roller ball applicator instantly cools and gently massages the delicate eye area. Perfect for even sensitive skin.

Simple goodness:• 1 Vital Vitamin: Pro-Vitamin B5 to actively restore, soften and smooth your skin• 3 Skin Loving Nutrients: Cucumber Extract to refresh and revitalise, Glycerin to hydrate and nourish and Lupin Extract to reduce puffiness

My say :

I love this little guy. For such a bargain price this roll on saves the day every time for me!
This is my go to product whenever my eyes are tired or strained or just as a little refresher. The metal roller ball is really cooling and when gently massaged under my eyes I honestly feel like I've just woken up after a good nights sleep! The gel is really light and not greasy and sits delicately on the skin. I also like to roll this on before I apply make up as I find it makes for a good, if unintentional, under eye primer. I use this all the time and it just lasts and lasts, I will undoubtedly repurchase this if the little thing ever runs out!

5. Vichy Idealia Eye Contour Cream 15ml  £23

They say:

"Suitable for all women who want to revive their eye area, the new generation eye contour idealiser combines skincare with illumination, targeting signs of fatigue, dehydration and ageing. After use, eyes appear brighter, smoother and more awake.Idealia Eyes is enriched with ingredients that both immediately and sustainably rejuvenate the area, with instant illuminators and a combination of DRM-Bright complex and Vitamin B3 to reduce dark circles, Vitamin CG to smooth fine lines, and Caffiene to energise. A rich infusion of Vichy’s signature Thermal Spa Water intensely soothes the area."

My say:

I wasn't going to include this as it was just a small sample size I have, but one use and I want to be singing from the rooftops about just how good this is!! It goes on light and has a beautiful light reflecting sheen to it. I put this on before bed with no make up on and I couldn't believe how much better my eyes looked, instantly! It is seriously light on the skin, you can't feel it sitting there like some creams and my dark circles and lines seemed to disappear immediately. I put some under my foundation this morning as a kind of primer and I was so impressed. It lightened the whole area and my foundation went on really well, didn't sit in any lines and I felt great all day. I haven't tried it for long enough to be able to tell you if it actually makes a difference to my under eye area or if its just the best at hiding everything and smoothing it over but quite honestly I don't think I mind because it looks extremely impressive on!

I'm always on the look out for a good eye cream, so if you've got one working for you let me know. If you've tried any of the above products and agree or disagree I'd love to hear from you and your thoughts. Hero Product - Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask

The clue is in the title.. this mask is my hero. A super hydrating cream worth every penny of its £30 price tag.

Clinique describes this mask as:

'Deep moisture tonight for a dewy glow tomorrow. Protects skin from dehydration, plumping skin's ability to hold in soothing, nourishing moisture.'

When thinking about what I was going to say in this blog post before I read this product info, the words that kept coming up in my mind were glowy, plumping and dewy and that's exactly what they had to say about it too. Clinique have got this product spot on.

Both myself, a twenty something and my mother, in her early sixties LOVE this product. It is seriously one of those skin care items that you can rely on if you know you need to look good.

I wouldn't use this more than once a week and usually I don't even use it as much as that. Just every now and then as a pick me up for my skin. If I've been in the sun and my skins feeling dry it is literally like a hydration boost, or in the Winter months when skin can dry out easily. I also like to use this if I'm doing myself a little spa night treatment at home and I feel the next day if I've had a professional facial.

Ok, honestly - It is a thick cream, it is greasy and when you put it on, yes you do feel like you've smeared Vaseline all over your face but put it on before bed and don't worry about it! The next day it will all be worth it when you've got baby soft, glowing, plumped out skin. I feel like using this sporadically is the best approach because I think even though I'm not particularly prone to break outs if I used this more regularly it would be too much for my skin and it could end up too oily. A little goes a long way with this. I like to squeeze a small amount on to the back of my hand and then dot around my face before gently  rubbing into my skin.

I keep this in my bedside drawer and every now and then I'll pop it on before bed after washing my face and leaving my moisturiser off. My mum does the same. Funny thing is I'll never know when she's been using it but always without fail I'll comment on how nice her skin looks the next day! She say's it plumps fine lines out really well and the results are noticeable every time.

You get 100ml for £30 and if your like me this will last you FOREVER! It's going to be a permanent addition to my skin care collection and if you fancy trying it for yourself you can get hold of a tube here - Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask

Jessica Phenomen Oil Nail Review

Jessica
Phenomen Oil Intensive Moisturiser

How effective is this cuticle oil? And does it do everything it claims?

I've been getting Jessica Geleration manicures for a while now. I'm terrible at painting my nails, I always smudge them or chip them as soon as I've done them and with Geleration I can enjoy two weeks, minimum, of chip resistant, hard, shiny polish on my nails. Much the same as Shellac, Geleration goes on like a nail varnish and then gets cured under a UV light. If you haven't heard of Jessica, theres loads of information on their website - http://www.jessica-nails.co.uk/ along with videos and tips for the best nail care.

So, every time I've gone for my manicure this oil has been used on my cuticles and nails and finally I decided to buy some to use at home myself. It wasn't cheap £15.00 for just under 15ml, (14.8ml to be precise!), but there is a smaller size that you can purchase.

This is what the blurb on the back says -  'Rehydrate skin around nails, even elbows feet, knees - wherever dryness demands a refreshing drink of moisture. Formulated with healing jojoba, almond and rice oils to revitalize and maintain ideal moisture balance. Phenomenal.'

I bought this in October and its now April and although I don't use it every day you can see just how long it lasts! I'd be surprised if I finished this before the end of the year!

Since using it regularly I've noticed a real difference. The skin around my nails used to get sore and split before but that seriously doesn't happen any more if I use this regularly. You only need the tiniest drop and it goes so far. I've also noticed that my nails grow much quicker. They used to be really dry and break easily and I do notice a real difference if I use this consistently.

You can use this oil on any dry skin too, so elbows, knees, anywhere really, you can spot treat areas. It is also renowned for being excellent on stretch marks and scars. You only need the tiniest bit and the pipette dispenser makes it really easy to control. A little bottle with a lot of uses!

Key ingredients include Vitamin E, Jojoba, Sweet Almond Oil and Rice Oil and the smell is delicious, lovely and almondy, like a bakewell tart!
I've included it in my nightly routine now which makes it really easy to remember to keep up with. Before bed I drop a little on each nail, rub in well and then apply my hand cream, (my favourite is Garnier Intensive 7 Days Hand cream), over the top. Applying at night means that the oil can sink in without being washed or rubbed off throughout the day.

The only negative I would point out with this is that its pretty hard not to get oil everywhere, even replacing the lid is a challenge! Although that could just be me be useless!

Top tips

  • Apply at night for maximum effects
  • Rub into cuticles before pushing back when doing a home manicure
  • If you want to give your nails a real treat, take off your polish and soak nails in some warm water with a few drops of this in to really hydrate and replenish
  • If your a fake tan lover use this on your elbows and knees the day before tanning to ensure no dry patches
